October: Celebrating Images and Visual Posts
Continuing the reset and spaciousness while embracing the power of images
As you might know, I offer the opportunity to answer interview questions about art and mental health using images only (or images plus words, for that matter). I do this for a variety of reasons related to neurospiciness and different ways of learning and communicating. I do this because many artists think in images and find that something gets diluted when they try to explain those images in words. And I do this because I absolutely love exploring the responses which touch me at some visceral level.
I have a few new visual interviews for you in October that people have submitted to me. (Submission opportunities are still open.) And for October, I’m also going to be sharing more posts that are just my own visual art with little or few words to go with them. It’s a way for me to share with you some of the thoughts and experiences that I have as a creative person with mental health challenges that is different from my usual medium of words and words and more words.
This different type of sharing is a bit of a continuation of the “September Reset” that I started. I was able to create some spaciousness throughout the month and I did get clearer on some things … but our brains and creative lives don’t align neatly with a calendar, so I still need some more spaciousness. I have ideas of the things I’d like to make changes to (here on Substack with my sliding scale, what I offer paid, what I share at all, to make it all more sustainable. I have ideas of the things I’d like to be doing in other online and offline areas of life. But I don’t want to jump the gun and put a plan into place until it feels ready.
And I don’t want to overwhelm myself trying to write a whole lot of words here in October when I need more space to settle into what truly feels right. So my hope is that you will enjoy the breathing space of a selection of posts that are primarily visual this month.
TIP: If you don’t want these posts, you can opt in and out of different post types here on Create Me Free.
The visual interviews will be listed under the “interviews” category. My own creative work will be under “my art and writing.” You can opt in or out of either of those or you can also opt to receive just a once-monthly digest; so you would receive an email around October 31st with links to everything shared in October and then you could visit the ones you were interested in at your own leisure. Here’s a reminder of what your options look like, that you can toggle on and off:
REMINDER: If you’re investing time here, it’s helpful if you invest money, even if it’s less than $1/ month. My sliding scale is shifting soon so make sure you get the rate that is right for you now.
