I want the conversations to go on and on! If this were a diner I'd be the one there at 2 am having coffee and continuing to chat.

It definitely has that feel

It is awesome that you wrote quotes all over your walls! Our local primary school has Hundreds Day for the one hundredth day of the school year and the kids need to make a project. When our son was 6 he chose to do 100 quotes. He wrote the word SPIRIT very large in the center of a massive square and then wrote out 100 inspirational quotes. I think I rubbed off on him in his early years😆.

I missed Mari's Enneagram post, so look forward to checking it out. Similar to you I heard a lot about it from a friend and I kept dismissing it. Articles and info would come my way and I ignored it. Finally a couple years ago I did a deep-ish dive into what it was about and was blown away. It has been one of the biggest tools for personal growth I have ever experienced, helping explain me to myself and for me to understand my loved ones better.

I am a Nine, not sure which wing because they both seem very strong but likely 9W8.

The friend who taught me all about Enneagram is also a 9.

And your son sounds awesome. <3

It was a hefty project for a 6 year old! A lot of parental involvement.

I imagine you had at least as much fun as he did :)

The Writer's Workshop is being led by a group of my favorite writers. Sigh, sigh, sigh. It may be worth the activation of my Substack account just to join the FB group.

Thanks for including me in the conversation. You say, "I’ve mentioned elsewhere but for me the artistic tithe of ten percent is based on my entire income from everywhere and goes to all creatives not just here on Substack; it’s something I practice regardless of where I earn my money because I really do believe in a world that values art."

This is a practice that demonstrates investing your resources into the things that you value. I talk more about that here: wtpfocus.substack.com/p/whats-the-value-of-a-mug

I'm curious about this idea of making it a practice or a rule. Do you see that as limiting flexibility? Or as a way to ensure you do it? Or a way to plan other investments?

I'll definitely take a look at your article - thanks!

I would say out of those three options, it's mostly a way to ensure that I do it, but more accurate would be to say that it's a way to celebrate that I do this. I naturally spend money in this way now because it's been a practice for so long but there are still sometimes those moments when I am debating about a purchase because of cost and I can ask myself "would this be something I want to spend that ten percent on?" and if so then it makes me feel not just okay but great about spending that money. There's a lot of guilt/shame/fear around spending and this helps me really open up my mind around it for my self. It becomes "I get to/ am excited to/ am lucky to spend at least this much on things I believe in!!!"

Mine isn't a strict ten percent. Ten percent is the minimum. I tend to check in on where I'm at every month or two with earning and spending and it's a great way to recenter and say "oh, why was I spending so much on cocktails when I could have spent that on creatives?"

Thanks for the clarity. I appreciate that you have a process to check in on it. Money — like time — has a tendency to go places we don't want unless we tend to it.
