Silk Road to San Francisco: FREE guided art workshop series and exhibition celebrating the diverse intersection of Asian American/ Pacific Islander im(migration) stories
This press release truly captures the spirit of what sounds like an enriching and impactful project. The blend of history, culture, and personal narratives in "Silk Road to San Francisco" promises a compelling exploration into the Asian-American and Pacific Islander experience. The concept of using art to bridge historical trade routes with modern migration stories is fascinating. How do you envision these workshops influencing the community’s understanding of their own and each other's cultural heritage?
Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment and question. There is power in articulating our own unique experience (be that verbally or visually through art) and in doing so we integrate it better into our total personal experience and way of being. I believe that holding space for this for others can be highly impactful for the participating individuals and that this will then ripple out into the community. It has been my experience in other projects that when we create in community in this way, it reveals just how much we have in common with others, from our own culture and from different ones, from today and from the past ... we own our own stories but we realize that we are not alone and the empowerment and empathy this fosters can be so vital.
Thank you - I'm really excited about the work that we're doing together. We have skills that complement each other really well and it's always exciting to find a collaborator that it gels easily with.
