Brilliant. Kudos to both of you. The intellectual rat reading a book about cats stopped me in my tracks. Saved for a savoring read later this afternoon.

Thank you so much for appreciating this. I'm so excited about this new style of interview. And I was so happy that Sue was open to working with me on it because I always really love her creative drawings. I often go back to them and look again to see what I may have missed.

I enjoyed the new interview style very much!!! It made it easier from my point of view. And I'm honored that you enjoy my work! That means the world! Thank you!!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

So lovely. Deep and playful - my favorite combo platter!

Q: as a writer / illustrator, my curious Monkey mind wants to know: did you create each of these responses anew, or are they from your daily journal? Thank you.

Expand full comment

Thank you so much!!! Replying to your Monkey 😉 : some of these responses were made when Kathryn asked the question but the majority were what I already had somewhere in one of my sketchbooks. Finding the drawing that fit the question best was the issue. But so many of my sketchbook pages are already on topics Kathryn asked about so it wasn't hard to find something that answered her questions.

I hope this answers Monkey well - and thanks for asking!!

Thanks! I'm in the same process, finding much in the archives that offer a reply :) I'm loving these questions, @Kathryn Vercillo

Wahoo!!!!! 💚💚💚

Glad to hear it! And I think either way works - I assume people will answer from their archives and that going through them to find the responses will be hopefully creative/useful in some way but also sometimes the questions might inspire new work which is amazing as well.

So kind of you, thank you!!!! 💚💚

Love this. All the sketchbook pages and words that so eloquently answer all the questions.

I knew that Sue would be a perfect person to kick this off. Her work is so inspiring.

Feel free to answer the interview yourself anytime if you're moved to do so.

Oh yes! I love her sketchbook pages!

I think I will, when I have a bit of time, though perhaps a mixture of words and pictures?

Whatever works best for you will be perfect. Reach out if you have any questions in the process.

This is a beautiful series of visual responses from Sue - and a great idea for a series. I look forward to seeing these, and I've marked some of the previous interviews the two of you have done for reading later (in my me-time margins).

Sue consistently inspires me with her ability to share not only in words but also through visual images

I enjoyed the interplay between words and images in this interview.

Sue does that so well which was one of the reasons I knew she'd be a great person to help me bridge the gap from word-only interviews to ones focused on images.

She does!

I enjoyed this exchange/collaboration! I particularly love the elephant underneath the umbrella. Looking forward to more of this in the future. Kudos Kathryn and Sue!

I loved this Kathryn. Thank you for curating it. There is something so comforting about Sue’s sketches, writing and her mug.

Thank you for returning to the word curate! And I also love the word comfort for Sue's images - definitely agree.

As a recent subscriber to Sue, I am thrilled by this interview, and excited to delve further into your work too Kathryn. Substack is such a rich and rewarding place! Thanks so much to both of you. 🤗🤗😘😘🌼🌼

Amazing work there should be more people like you exploring this. I have always been about is exploring the darkness of the human condition and not the external leaf but the root cause and use of all things to do with mental hubris.

Brilliant interview format! I love the visual responses. The illustrations work so well and as someone who loved imagery it captivated me! I wonder how well it would work to respond in photos 💭

Would love it if you wanted to try!

I love these drawings ... with wonderful words too 🤩

Awesome! This is great. I love it. Also, I filled out the form, but with words, though I think this image one is incredible.

How utterly beautiful! I write, but colors, prints, and patterns make a different kind of magic for me. Thank you Kathryn for bringing us Sue’s magic!

It would be fun to do a series of questions about relationships, world events, prosperity, love, etc with the only answer being a film trailer. If you ever do that, I'm in. May you have a lovely Thanksgiving!

That does sound fun. We could do it as a conversational exchange in notes if you'd like?

Yes. Could be fun 😎
