Meet Lindy, Wearing a Dress as a Poster, Chant, March, Advertisement, Loud Speaker
Dressember fights human trafficking. Did you know that "less than 1% of victims are rescued? They need urgent intervention and radical hope."
Dressember isn’t over, yet, so there’s still time to raise awareness about this creative fight against human trafficking. Interviewing participants is the way I’m doing that this year. See all interviews here.
I am donating 10% of all December Substack income to Dressember.
What does Dressember mean to you? Why are you participating this year?
“It means being a voice for the voiceless. To help raise the funds for trafficking victims but more to create change to bring them hope.”
What does "mental health" mean to you? How does it relate to your own life and/or your understanding of the Dressember cause?
It is a part of our whole self and so needs to be at a level of wholeness / health that we can operate and thrive on a daily basis.
In what ways does Dressember allow you to express yourself creatively while raising awareness and funds?
I have to think about dress outfits, my time, and planning - focusing and caring for myself to be able to then participate. I am also using the Bingo card and finding alternate meanings for the activities
What is the aspect of Dressember's cause that you most want to highlight?
That it is happening everywhere.
What do you wish people knew about human trafficking that you suspect most people don't know?
That less than 1% of victims are rescued. They need urgent intervention and radical hope. Everyone deserves to have hope and the chance to a better life.
In your own words, how does wearing a dress every day for a month make a difference?
It is my poster, chant, march, advertisement, loud speaker: To force the blinkered to look in a direction they wouldn’t have seen without the prompting and so to shine a light on the issue and bring attention to Human trafficking.
What do you want people to know about your specific fundraising team and goal?
Every little bit helps, and helps those most vulnerable.
What else do you want to make sure people know about the Dressember cause?
It’s an international organisation and oversight and transparency means their funds go directly to where it is most needed in the fight against human trafficking.
Tell us a little bit about creativity, mental health, and/or the way that they intersect in your own life (outside of Dressember stuff) ...
Writing, creative writing and journaling are most definitely part of maintaining my mental health.
What's another random thing we might be interested to know about you?
I am an A21 volunteer- it’s another international abolitionist organisation.
