Here are Substacks Artists, Writers, Creatives, Makers and Performers Whose Health Impacts Their Creative Work in Complex Ways

An opportunity to meet one another ...

I haven’t been spending a lot of time over on Substack Notes recently, because more often than not it just feels like I’m sending things out into the void and it’s not really useful to anyone and it makes me feel less connected rather than more so … BUT I recently created a Note that led so many wonderful people to me and I’m so excited to start to get to know each of them (each of you).

My note simply read:

Dear Substack,

Help me find the artists, writers, creatives, makers, performers

Help me find the people whose health impacts their creative work in complex ways

Help me find those with chronic pain, chronic illness, mental health challenges, neurodiversity, and disability.

These are my people.

And beautiful people have responded.

I am ignoring the reaction I have to automatically dash off a quick reply to each person who responded so that they know I saw them and instead taking my time to really look at their work and form a thoughtful response before I bother to respond. I admit it’s a little uncomfortable (will they still like me if I don’t answer quickly? - a thing I wish I wouldn’t ever think but if I’m being honest the thought is there.)

But, taking my time with this is in alignment with my values. So I am.

And yet … I wanted to acknowledge everyone who responded. And more than that, I wanted to create an opportunity for you all to find one another as well. So, I’ve rounded up everyone’s responses here, and I hope that you’ll find the ones that resonate for you and reach out and make some friends.

Gratitude to each and every one of you who has responded. If I haven’t written back to you personally, yet, know that I’m trying to be thoughtful and intentional before I respond. I am so glad you are here. <3
